    I just subscribed!! My mother and I both suffer from stiffness and pain in our fingers and wrists. We have trigger fingers too and they are quite painful. My mother has had these issues for quite a while and now I'm experiencing them too. We will definitely try these exercises and hope our stiffness and pain disappear. Thanks and blessings from India. Do you have videos on pain in the legs and how to increase leg strength?

    Thank you for this interesting and comprehensive explanation of dupuytrens. I was diagnosed with DC 8 years ago by a hand surgeon who told me it would definitely progress. Both my palms had one visible cord and one nodule each. Over the past 8 years nothing has changed and I never had any progression or problem. I am of northern European and Viking descent. To my knowledge no one in my family has or had this condition.

    Ive tried all the stretching and tennis ball but they all made my pain worse, i then tried the “toe squincher” as recommended by jeff Galloway, which really seems to be helping 👍🏻 what are your thoughts on using a TENS machine on heel pain?

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK День назад

      TENS might provide some temporary pain relief but it won’t alter the structure of the plantar fascia in any way.

    I have found that wearing wide toe box barefoot shoes help the most which goes against conventional wisdom.

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK День назад

      I’m guessing you probably have fairly good toe movement and therefore don’t need stiff soles. Wide shoes are often comfortable in the condition as they prevent the thickened joint from rubbing against the next door toe.

    I have seen no mention of pain in the ball of the foot. It's like walking on coals after walking a few kilometres (in both expensice running and hiking shoes). Most visuals show the connection at the heel as focus of pain. I meet all other criteria of PF.

    This is my first time watching you and your information. I learned more from it than in several years of watching others. I really want to get some insoles, but all your references seems to indiciate they are for people with flat feet. I am looking for an insole for the heel and arch, but that supports a high arch. Are they the same, or is there another one you can recommend. When I click on your links, I am confused by the number of arch supports that are listed.

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 6 дней назад

      If you have high arches then you probably just need the pressure relief gel heel inserts. But the arch support Orthotics can also be helpful for high arch feet. They will just take some of the strain off the PF. The problem you might have is knowing how high your arch is and therefore how much arch support you would need. Best option might be to see a podiatrist.

    Hello Doctor! Thank you for the amazing video! I think I have had this condition in both arms since December. From September to February, I had a job that required me to be on the computer all day. My posture and ergonomics were terrible then. Additionally and until recently, I would go to the gym 3 times per week and do heavy compound lifts that required repeated elbow bending. My only symptom is waking up in the middle of the night with numb fingers. When I straightened my arm, everything goes back to normal within 30 seconds. I have never had any numbness or tingling while preforming any of my daily activities. Only sleeping causes issues. In the past 6 weeks, I have definitely noticed a decrease in the frequency of symptoms. This is because I cut out my gym time and most of my computer time. When I sleep with the splints on, I sleep soundly and experience no numbness in either of my hands ~90% of the time. Sadly, when I choose to sleep without the splints, the numbness returns about 50% of the time. Is this a bad sign? Or, should I continue with my current path of activity modification and night splinting until I hit 9-12 months of consistent night splinting and activity modification? When will I know I can ditch the night splints and go back to my normal activities? I really want to avoid surgery because my symptoms are minor and I am only 23! Thanks for a very helpful video! All the best, Doctor!

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 6 дней назад

      Yes your symptoms sound very much like cubital tunnel syndrome. If things are improving then I would continue with your current regime and keep using the night splints. Once you’ve had a few weeks with no symptoms at all then you could try leaving the splints off and see whet happens. If symptoms return then it’s back on with them again. At 9 months, if it’s not resolved then you have a decision to make about surgery. It is a minor procedure that usually works well. Good luck with it.

    Thank you for this very informative video! Your video is the first one I’ve watched that clearly describes the plantar fascia, the makeup of it and the thickening of it from the damaged fibers. Also you’re explaining the treatments step by step is the only explanation I have seen outside of my doctors office. I had several cortisone shots and all of them lasted 3-5 weeks, then the pain returned just as you described. I’ve stopped receiving them and have since been taking a collagen supplement and each morning before stepping out of bed, I slowly place weight on my foot and stretch out my calf muscles before walking. This has helped me a lot but I still have the pain at times. Some days are great and some mornings are better but I think my work still aggravates it. I’m a year and a half so far dealing with this, I hope it gets better soon. Thank you for your information.

    I find this information very helpful and the doctor speaking very confident and knowledgeable of the symptoms and also the treatment, I used to work as a nurse. I was on my feet for 12 hours a day. Then I had to give up work through an instant at work. In the last 5 years I've taken up my passion for art and during this time I'm usually standing so I can take the point where you say too much standing or exercising can bring on these symptoms of plantar fasciitis. It's given me room for thought on how I can ease the discomfort, I would like to thank you for your informative video on this treatment. Thank you for your help and have a good day 🇬🇧👍🏼

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 8 дней назад

      Yes this is quite common. It’s a subluxing ulnar nerve. If it’s not painful and the ulnar nerve is functioning normally then it’s fine to leave alone. If it’s bothering you then yes, surgery, usually via ulnar nerve transposition, is the only option.

    My dad had Dupuytren's contracture in his late 70's on his ring finger. He never had his DNA done, but his paternal grandmother was of Germanic descent. I had my DNA done and I have 4% Norwegian DNA along with 92% combination of Northwestern Europe/England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland. I've also done my genealogy back to well before 1600 on most lines, and nary a -son or -dotter in the bunch. I'm left to assume that the Norwegian is a throwback to the Danelaw period of England. As well, through various lines on my dad's side (although my McClellan/Watson mom has significant ties back to 1400-era Scotland) we directly descend from James III and James IV of Scotland. If I didn't mention, my dad was 6'5", his mother 5'10" (and for her generation, born in 1895, was very tall), I am 5'11", my daughter is 6'2"...and I have assorted nephews that range from 6'2" to 6'7". I have to assume that our collective height goes back to Vikings.

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 11 дней назад

      Yes, You are very young to develop Dupuytren’s. But there is no evidence that exercising your hand will cause contractures. I would suggest using your hand normally including bouldering. If and when the fingers start to bend, go and see a hand surgeon. Because of your age they might consider a dermofasciectomy.

    I haven't read all the comments but I am utterly surprised that there is little to no mention of God's miracle oil. CASTOR OIL. People, I am not selling anything, not getting paid, not benefiting from this post at all, but I MUST share my experiences with CASTOR OIL. I'm 70 years old, and have rather serious OA in my left thumb. My right thumb is starting to get painful. As a matter of fact, I have OA in my knees as well, most likely from being overweight for quite some years. Now I suffer the consequences from that. I have had Hyaluronic injections in my both knees and that went well for a couple of years. They are not covered by the health fund - of course. I asked it they could do the same for my painful thumb, but they said it didn't work and suggested surgery with a replacement metal joint. I said thanks but no thanks. Then about half a year ago, I discovered CASTOR OIL. For my hair growth basically. It works fine! Then I started doing more research on the oil and started using it for under eye bags, dry eyes, skin, all my joints, constipation and overall health. Folks: I wish I had found this years ago!!!! The pain in my knees is gone, I can walk comfortably since I rub the oil on my knees every evening. My dry eyes are healed: no more suffering from being an online information addict. Totally gone. No more useless , ridiculously expensive eyedrops from the pharmacy! (Here in Flanders they cost 2000€ per liter!!! and it's mainly water!) My eye bags have drastically diminished and would disappear if I could go to bed earlier than 2, 3 or 4 am.....🙄🙄🙄 So since 10 days I started rubbing the oil on my left thumb (the worst pain though I am right handed) every evening too. The joint will of course never regrow cartilage and the pain will be there, but trust me folks, the pain has gone down from 10 to 1 on the scale!!! I am even rubbing my right thumb, minimal pain, just to prevent it from stopping me doing my craft work. FOLKS: DO SOME RESEARCH, you don't even have to believe me, get informed and GO GET SOME CASTOR OIL!!!! You will be surprised as to the wonderful relief from all these ailments it will accomplish! I will never, ever be without Castor Oil again! Be sure to get the real pure stuff: unrefined,hexane free and virgin oil. DO NOT BUY oil that comes in plastic or clear bottles! This pure virgin oil - like ALL virgin oils! - has to be in a dark GLASS bottle. Good luck, people, and GOD BLESS!🙏

      No. Itching is not a common symptom of thumb arthritis. More likely to be a nerve problem or a skin problem.

      Just the same. You can still use heel cushioning and also an arch support to take the strain of the PF but you might want to put more emphasis on the stretches and exercises. Good luck.

    • @PhysioMSK

      You can’t cure osteoarthritis in any joint ie. You can’t reverse the changes seen on X-Ray. Symptoms can be managed and improved, often quite significantly. Surgery might be considered a cure in that it has the potential to take the pain away completely.

    in 63, I developed it in both hands , i noticed it about 6 months ago. I use a computer everyday for hours. No one in my family had it. Im not Viking. im European decent.

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 20 дней назад

      Yes it’s very common throughout Europe, or in European descendants. Viking’s were very good at spreading their DNA around ! Unless you had a genetic test you would never know you had some. Your parents might have had the genetics but the disease just might not have presented within their lifetime. Some researchers think the gene is activated by trauma and so it might never occur despite having the genes. Others think the gene might activate at a ‘predetermined’ time. If that is aged 95, and you die aged 94, you would never know that you carried the gene. Hope that helps.

      It could be yes. Try using a splint under your gloves and see if that helps. The push splint (see in description) is small enough to fit under a surgical glove.

    Thanks for the video. Can I ask a question? I'm a 30yo male, been drawing for the past 7 years, recently became a full-time artist. Last year I was diagnosed with OA in my right drawing hand. At first I didn't pay much attention to it, but this year it's started to be noticeable, the middle and ring finger grew into a ( bracket - shape along with very visible spurs in a few places (especially the joint I use to rely a pencil on). I've become really worried about my future. I know for a fact that it's hereditary, my grandma has it all over her hands, but she's in her 70s, not 30s! Would you say that it matters if I put pressure on that distal middle finger joint with a pencil? It's how you usually hold a pencil. The pressure is not big, but rather for long periods of time. Drawing sessions might take 4-6 hrs once or twice per day.

      I address hand and finger arthritis in this video ruclips.net/video/fhLkDOPViUE/видео.htmlsi=vKHI69ZuqlvV_hTc If it’s not painful when pinch gripping a pencil then I wouldn’t worry. An x Ray would be useful though.

      @@PhysioMSK Thank you very much, and I really appreciate you taking time to answer me. I can't say it's painful, but there's an itchy sensation after a drawing session, little redness. • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 23 дня назад

      @@nulldata9832 there are some x-Ray examples in that video but generally you look for arthritic changes in the DIP joints. This is the job of a radiologist or orthopaedic specialist though. You shouldn’t be interpreting x-Ray results yourself.

    You explained everything that my ortho did not (which is how I ended up finding you). THANK YOU!!! Two questions: 1) Could you please address what diet changes may be helpful and 2) whether or not wearing support can help slow or prevent further deterioration? Lastly a suggestion: I know someone that took too much ibuprofen (deliberately) and almost needed a liver transplant. Advil takes my pain away very effectively but I only use it when I cannot take it anymore and never for more than a few days. I think you should be more assertive about the dangers of abusing OTC medications.

    • @PhysioMSK
      @PhysioMSK 23 дня назад

      Thanks for the comment Denise. Much appreciated. To answer your questions, 1) There is very limited quality evidence to support dietary changes in osteoarthritis, other than the fact that a 'Mediterranean diet' seems to be beneficial. However I have addressed diet and supplements for OA in a separate video here ruclips.net/video/5x-U0pJJnsk/видео.htmlsi=QWU-NpdQskY91kXx 2) Using a splint for the long term would theoretically slow the degenerative process but there is no clinical evidence to support this. 3) I agree re issues associated with OTC medicine abuse. I always advise patients to talk with their Dr / Pharmacist before using these meds and there are clear warnings on the package. If people choose to abuse these meds it is often a conscious choice and there is unfortunately little that can be done to stop them. Best wishes. Stephen.
